Using Pro Tools with iMac\'s internal speakers

MessageAuthor

I am using Pro Tools 7.3 LE at my home with my Intel iMac and Mbox 2 mini. iMac's internal speakers would be just fine for my use here. Is somebody somehow successfully routing the audio from outputs of Mbox back to iMac and to it's speakers?

No...but I am using the Intel iMac Aluminum...are you using it or the white plastic? I do my bounce and bring my mix into iTunes on my aluminum. I do this to test against songs produced by the Pro'a - guya likw Mutt Lange and the Shania records or Brittney Spears early stuff, or Avenged Sevenfold...I do this because the iMac Alum speakers are just good enough to show me what my stuff would sound like to the rest of the world compared to the tunes the best producers are putting out. I mean, my mixes sounded great to me on my Sony Pro headphones and my KRK Rockit 5's....but when brought into iTunes and compared to the professional mixes my stuff sound tinnier and weaker. I am not trying to achieve parity through the Imac speakers becuse all my higher end stuff allows me to live in Illusion land. However, the speakers on the white iMac are really terrible. But back to topic, I think there could be a way to send your MBox audio signal into the iMac monitor through the sound input with a stereo DIN jack - I think.....

This free program might help: "LineIn" utility. Connect the output of your Mbox mini to the input of your Mac. It should then play through your Mac's speakers. I've tried it and got it working with my M-Audio 1814 and MacBook Pro. I could only try it with my digital input on the Mac. To get it to work I had to select the Pass Thru button on the "LineIn" utility. I only gave it a quick test - not sure whether it might cause clicks and pops if the Mbox and Mac audio drivers interfere. The audio play through utility is a free download. Hope this helps. Ask me if you need more help. Richard
